Interview with Dr. Andrea Dennis regarding Veterinary Sales Tax Proposal

Dear Friends,

We need your help in voicing your opposition to the proposed tax on veterinary medical services by Connecticut legislative leaders. Veterinary medicine is a medical profession which impacts both animal health and welfare as well as public health, including mental health. We treat and prevent illnesses in animals that can affect humans, rabies and leptospirosis being two such examples. We treat and prevent parasites such as roundworms, which can infect young children and adversely affect their brain function. We alleviate animal suffering. We provide services that impact the human food chain.

Animals are not only owned by the wealthy. They are owned by the disabled, elderly individuals with limited incomes, the poor, the middle class. They provide services to the blind, paraplegics, children with autism, individuals with epilepsy, among others.

Veterinary services are provided to cats, dogs, horses, dairy farms, goats, sheep, beef cattle, swine, etc.

Taxes on veterinary services would be far reaching in their consequences resulting in reduced care for animals. This will adversely affect the health and quality of life of those animals and the individuals with which they interact.

Your assistance right now could not be more important. Please contact your state legislators, the legislative leaders and the governor's office to voice your concern regarding the harm to animal health and welfare and the citizens of this state should a sales tax on veterinary services be instituted. Contact information is just below. A personal email or note and a phone call are the best way to register your objections with state leaders. Time is of the essence so please act today!
